Healing the sick…doesn’t that make me sound like a miracle worker?! No, not quite. But I do hope I can help my mom feel better and distract her from her aching knee. Several months ago, she tore the meniscus in her right knee. She didn’t know it at the time and it got worse and worse. Finally, she went to the doctor and found out what happened. They tried her on a round of physical therapy, but it didn’t work. So today was surgery day!
I headed down to Cape Cod after my chemistry lecture (and quiz!). My brother and I waited for her while she was in recovery, and were there to greet her when she woke up. So far, doped up on pain killers, she is feeling good.
It’s really amazing that they can make one teeny tiny incision and in a couple days time, you can be back on your feet! But for the weekend, she is going to look like this:
Ice for 20 minutes every hour she’s awake. Brrrr!
We didn’t get home until 5pm and she had been ordered to fast before the surgery….ever since midnight last night! So she was hangry! I made her a snack of Greek yogurt, flax, chia, crushed walnuts, and dried cranberries. This is what she requested and what she usually eats! I told her she should be a food blogger!
While she ate her snack, I made dinner. She reads my blog and sees all of the things I am cooking up, so she had a dinner request straight from the blog. She bought some rice paper wrappers so that I could make her what Dave and I now affectionately call “condom-shaped spring rolls.”
I sauteed some broccoli slaw, shredded zucchini, shredded carrot, and sliced yellow pepper with some of Emeril’s Asian Spice Blend. I cooked it until everything was soft and then added some tuna (for protein!).
They were wonderful and she gave them 2 thumbs up!
My brother is living at home right now while he is applying to graduate school, but tonight he is teaching a karate class at a local college. So its just us girls tonight! If she isn’t too out of it from the meds, maybe we’ll watch a good girlie movie together. Tomorrow my dad, brother, and Dave will be here, so we have some female bonding to do tonight!
I won’t be doing a whole lot of blog reading while I am here. But I’ll try to keep up with all of you. I’m sorry I’ll miss the Boston blogger meetup this weekend, but there is nowhere I’d rather be than right here. I feel so lucky when I can have all of my family together!
I also will be announcing the winner of my Giveaway on Saturday. You have until Friday night to enter…..
Goodnight all! Have a wonderful Friday! :)
