Boston escaped the last big storm that hit the east coast. But we’re not going to be so lucky this time. I am crossing all of my fingers and toes that the college closes. I know I won’t make it there tonight. The storm is supposed to be at its height during the evening hours. But because the course is only 8 classes long, missing a class is missing a lot of information!
Dave and his best friend went to a basketball game last night, so I had a perfect night to blog. But I ended up on the phone with my mom and then with my best friend. Before I knew it, it was time to go to bed. So I’ll show you this morning, what I was going to show you last night….
The nice folks at Amazing Grass sent me a few samples of their products to try. I was thrilled because I have been reading about Amazing Grass on the blogs for so long and really wanted to try their bars and supplement drinks.
In the last couple of days I have tried 2 different bars: a chocolate and a chocolate peanut. I really liked both of them. And I got a kick out of how green the inside of the peanut one was! Too bad the light was bad in this picture. You can’t see just how green the inside is!
These bars are organic, gluten-free, raw, soy-free, dairy-free, and vegan. The chocolate peanut had 11 grams of protein and both had a good amount of fiber. I ate the chocolate peanut over the course of several hours. It had more calories that the other bars, at 270 calories. That’s more than I want in a single bar, but because the bars are larger than a lot of bars (60 grams vs. a 48 gram Lara Bar), splitting it in half provided a couple of good snack size portions.
I really liked the taste of both bars. Not overly sweet. It tasted healthy without being chalky or grainy.
I also tried one of the supplement mixes yesterday. This is a chocolate -flavored one designed for kids. The package claims each packet has:
“33 fruits and vegetables you can’t get from a multi-vitamin”
“Supports a healthy immune system”
“provides the nutritional power of 3 servings of fruits and vegetables.”
Sounds good to me. The package suggests that you mix the packet with 1 oz. of water before adding 4-6 oz. of “your favorite milk beverage.” I missed this part and mixed it directly into the milk with a spoon. I had to stir and stir to dissolve the mix, so I will definitely follow their directions more closely in the future or use a blender. But eventually it all dissolved.
It wasn’t as chocolately as I thought it might be. But it was definitely good. I am excited to try the other packets they sent as well. This one only has 21 calories, which is pretty incredible, given that it packs such a nutritional punch!
So far, I am really impressed with the Amazing Grass products and am very thankful for the opportunity to sample and review them. Unfortunately, the price is much more than I can afford to spend on bars and supplements, so I don’t see being able to by an entire tub of the mix or a case of the bars. It’s too bad because I would really like to incorporate these products into my diet more frequently.
I’ll let you know what I think of the other flavors as I work my way through the samples. Thank you to Amazing Grass for being so generous!
Wherever you are today, stay warm and stay safe. I plan to not leave the house at all. Which means I should be able to do a lot of productive studying! I just hope my college officially closes so that I don’t have to miss a class. I think I could count on one hand the number of classes I have missed in 4 years of college, 3 years of graduate school, and 2 semesters of being back in school for my dietetics prerequisites. But safety first! I will be hunkered down with my books and my hot chocolate!

Yup- I had a snow day today even though it hasn’t even started snowing. I am going to try to run errands before the storm starts- hopefully that’s not everyone’s plan
Thanks for letting us know about the Amazing Grass products. I’ve been wanting to try something so maybe now I’ll have the motivation
Sometimes their products are on sale at Whole Foods for a reasonable price and I try to pick them up then! I love the powder in smoothies or oatmeal
Great review. The bar’s calories is a bit high for my liking and I don’t drink milk either. I don’t think I’ll ever be jumping on the Amazing Grass bandwagon, but I’m glad you finally got to try!
We are getting hit really bad over here too (NYC)
I am yet to try any Amazing Grass products =/
I love Amazing Grass!! At first I hated it… but after trying it again, I developed a taste for it and now want to order more!!
I’m going to be doing a post on Amazing Grass here in a few weeks, sometime. I love the products, but I just got the ADA Supplement manual and they sort of debunk the “wheat grass” thing. Yeah, oh well, I still eat it! The peanut butter bars are my favorite, I do wish they were less expensive too. I found some on sale the other day and stocked up! (the powder, that is).
I hope you got your day off school today!
I haven’t tried any of the Amazing Grass products yet… but want to!
So glad we missed the snow! Finally Boston gets it easy
I never saw the ‘mix with water’ on the directions, I put the mix directly into the blender (mango pomegranate flavor) and it was horrible! All grainy, like sand. PLeh.
My husband loves the Amazing Grass stuff – Sadly I can’t eat it.
Hope you had a snow day – we did – and it was kind of pointless. Totally could have worked just about a full day!
