First of all….thank you all so much for sharing so much excitement with me. It is such fun to post about something exciting in my life and to feel like people are genuinely happy for me. I thank you!
And because I love you all so much, I have never done this before…. But today, for the first time ever, I clicked “mark as read” in my google reader. As much as I love reading all of your blogs, I simply can not keep up!
I am on the computer a good deal, so I asked myself today, “Why are you suddenly so behind in reading blogs?!” It was an easy answer. I spent several hours over the weekend looking at different properties on-line, both before and after we went to the actual open houses. And just today, I spent an hour on babycenter.com, an hour and a half pricing baby furniture, strollers, and car seats ($$$$!), and then another 45 minutes or so looking at the updates on the baby center forums . It seems almost all of my “recreational” computer time has been spent on babies and houses! So my apologies for missing any news you’ve posted. Please let me know if there were any big weekend announcements.
This weekend, we had a monsoon here in the northeast. It is still raining! It was perhaps the worst weekend ever to look at houses. But in another way, with 6-8 inches of rain, we definitely got to see how basements held up to extreme rain! We actually did find a couple of houses we liked. One, I really love! The only con is that it is on a main road. I always said I wouldn’t live on a heavily traveled street. But this house is set back on a hill, and is behind a fence. the entrance to the house is also on a quiet side road….a side road that leads to beach access and a playground. It doesn’t have the feel of being on a main road, so perhaps I need to rethink my house criteria. Its an old house with a lot of character, but it has also been updated and the kitchen and bathrooms have been renovated. I really love it. But its early, and there are no other immediate offer, so we have time to really think it through.
In all of the house excitement, there was a lot of good food too. I’ll leave you with a few highlights!
It was a busy weekend (and a wet one!), but it was productive, and I feel like we are well on our way to finding our home. Even if this house isn’t “the one,” it is great to see that Dave and I are very much on the same page in terms of what we want.
It is still pouring out and the raods are flooded, so I am hunkering down for the night. Thank you all once again for sharing in our excitement. To all of my local friends… you will have to join us for a housewarming when we finally move and settle in! A dinner party perhaps!

No need to apologize, Shannon! You’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do! I’m glad you were able to go house hunting this weekend, despite the lousy weather. I’m scared to leave the house (I’m a big fraidy cat!). I can’t believe all the flooding, especially in Waltham! I know I would be the same if I were you. I’d be researching baby furniture, car seats, food, shopping for clothes for me and the baby, pregnancy tips, baby names, etc. I’m glad you are doing some good eating though! All that food looked delish! I especially liked the roasted eggplant and tomato. YUMMY! Take care of you and the bean (and of course, Dave!).
That veggie burger wrap looks awesome!!
It’s the first time you’ve checked marked as read? I am impressed haha. I remember I spent SO much time online looking at houses when we were buying- do you use redfin.com, it’s a good one
I laughed out loud about the basement comment but it’s SO true right now. Almost everyone I know has water in their basement. Our inspection happened on a very raining day and the inspector said it was probably better. We did catch a little leak that was fixed before we bought the house, yay.
Anyway, no exciting weekend news for me, although I did do my wedding cake tasting, yum. Other than that though, just tried to avoid this insane weather. It has to get better right?
The weather certainly can’t get worse, huh?!
We are working with a realtor who is directing MLS listing to us that meet our criteria.
I’m not down with main roads either, but old houses with updates and character are so cute. A lot of houses around here are like that, old but updated. It’s always a plus when you don’t havew to update them yourself either!
I’m down for a dinner party!! I’ll bring the cookies!
Oh Lady, you don’t have to say sorry! we all know that you have a lot of things going on and we understand!
I am over all this rain! I heard it is supposed to be sunny in the am and all I want to do is RUN (forest run)
The weather has been soooo crazy! No need to apologize, everyone has to “mark all as read” every once in a while
Good luck on the baby and house purchases!
I think I need to come out there and take some cooking lessons from you!
I believe you asked me if I knew your husband or not. When I have seen pics of him on your blog I do think he looks rather familiar… but I don’t know how. I graduated in ’99 from BHS…
You know how many times I have done the mark as read “trick”. Sometimes life gets in the way of my blog reading. I eventually get to comment again.
You have exciting times ahead. Enjoy these moments.
Isn’t it SO exciting?!?! Nick and I are signing our papers on Friday, and I can’t believe it. While the house we chose wasn’t MY first coice, by any means, it has many things I love and I know it will be PERFECT by the time we have children. We need to put a lot of money into it, but it will be fun and it will give us something to do, together. I’m glad you and Dave are on the same page when it comes to house-hunting. It makes a HUGE difference. Nick and are are too, for the most part. He’s more interested in what’s outside though
I need to make your polenta pizza. Every time you show it I want it!
Talk to you later
The house sounds fabulous! Beach access and a playground will come in handy with a kid.
I can’t wait to see what you decide on!
Hi Shannon….first off I’ll give you some inspiration…we moved last August into a new house, when I was 8 months pregnant. I will be honest, I don’t recommend it! But, good thing was we had LOTS of help, and I just basically stood around and directed! I will say it does give you motivation to get the baby’s room done!
And, am I the only one who has yet to try the Laughing Cow cheese wedges????
Wow! I definitely want to move before the 8 month mark. Although the idea of sitting there watching other people do the heavy lifting sounds pretty good!
so very happy for you!!! many exciting things to come! I can hardly keep up with blogs too and I don’t have a little one on the way. There are definitely priorities
Best of luck to you! And stay safe in that crazy weather, goodness! I HAVE to make that polenta pizza mmm
